Map 23 – Pretty River – Ed 31 Or the Bruce Trail App
Description: Situated on one of the highest elevations of the Niagara Escarpment, the Petun Conservation Area was named for the indigenous peoples that inhabited the land during the early 1600’s.
This trail leaves the main Trail at km 54.0 and heads north to a lookout on the Escarpment edge. Here, the trail turns east along the top of Osler Bluff until it reaches a ski slope and turns down before turning left again. Following the base of the Escarpment, the trail then turns right onto a road allowance before turning left at the intersection of New Mountain Road and 2nd Line, where it connects with the main Trail at km 59.6. Together with the main Trail, this side trail forms two loops: an eastern loop of 5.7 km, and a longer one of 8.3 km.
Parking: 320 m north of km 55.7, a small parking area on the east side of 2nd Line is provided by the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Area. (10 cars, $15 + HST). For more information: visit nvca.on.ca
Terrain: Hilly (some steep), mostly wooded route. Spectacular views, including the Nottawasaga Lighthouse.
Getting there: From Collingwood, travel west on Sixth Street to Osler Bluffs Road/County Road 34. Turn left and travel south to Grey Road 19. Turn right and follow Grey Road 19 to the 2nd Line. Turn left and follow the 2nd Line for approximately one kilometre. Turn left to the entranceway on your left.
Nearby: In Creemore, visit The Old Mill House Pub for some well-deserved post-hike pub grub and beer.
