Hiking Tips & Safety

Visiting the Bruce Trail can be a fun and enriching experience.
Please read over the following tips to ensure your safety and to help maintain the trail for all users:

  • Have a plan and take your maps and cell phone.
  • Hike with a partner and stay on the trail.
  • Let someone know where you’re starting and ending your hike and when you expect to be back.
  • Follow the blazes and all signs posted.
  • Dress appropriately for weather and trail conditions. Layers are key.
  • Well-fitting hiking boots/shoes and trekking poles help maintain stability.
  • Keep an eye out for poison ivy, ticks, wet wood/rocks (slippery), and animals.
  • Carry a small first aid kit and a whistle.
  • Bring lots of water and snacks.
  • Pack out what you pack in (including biodegradable items and toilet paper).
  • Keep your dog on a leash and pick up after them.
